Students will dig deep into the second half of Algebra 1, using the standard curriculum as a springboard into real-world applications, enrichment activities, and projects, This in-depth class is for gifted students who would like to complete the 2nd half of Algebra 1 or for students who have completed an Algebra 1 class and would like to review the material covered at the end of the school year. Students who would like to expand the breadth and depth of their knowledge would be good candidates for this class as well. This class is rigorous and will cover all material included in the second half of high school algebra. There will be a review of linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations, and exponents/exponential functions. Then students will dive into polynomials, factoring, radical expressions/equations, trigonometry, and rational expressions/functions with extensions into interesting mathematical concepts and real-world applications related to the topics they study. There will be a test or project assigned each Friday to be turned in before class on Monday each week. Students will receive a certificate of completion with a letter grade and a score report from a standardized end-of-year algebra 1 test.

Michelle Wallick

Michelle Wallick

Mrs. Wallick has taught preschool through middle-school aged children for over 30 years. Through her experience and extensive research when her two oldest children were attending elementary school, Mrs. Wallick knew that were no suitable elementary options for highly gifted students. With a handful of 4 year-olds working at levels well beyond kindergarten in the Montessori preschool, Michelle designed a unique program designed specifically for students who are gifted that could challenge even the most profoundly gifted students while allowing them to learn with similar-aged and similar-ability peers. Cyprus offers a superb education, with ability-based rather than grade-based classes and an in-depth, full-day, enriching curriculum. Cyprus now enrolls students from Pre-K - 8th grade ages, and the curriculum goes into college levels. Michelle's Educational background includes: M.Ed. in Educational Leadership Post-graduate certification in Talent Development and Gifted Education B.A. in English with a minor in Math/Computer Science AMI Montessori Diploma Licensed Kindermusik Business Owner. Michelle and her husband, Mike, have three children ages 26, 24, and 16, and one grandson born in September, 2019. She is Founder and Director of Cyprus Classical Academy, and Cyprus School of Music and the Arts and continues to teach on a regular basis.
